ORDER HOLY APOSTLE ANDREW THE FIRST - CALLED: The ROYAL FAMILY AWARD is 56” SOLID GOLD, oblong, filled with blueenamel with the image of the crucified St. Andrew. At the ends of thecross are gold letters: "SAPR"(Sanctus St. Andreas Patronus Russian -Saint Andrew the Patron of Russia). The Cross is superimposed on a double - headed Russian eagle, filled with blackenamel, crowned with three crowns. On the reverse side of the badge, on thechest of the eagle, on a white field there is an inscription in black enamel:"For Faith and Loyalty". The cross is suspended on a blue enamelribbon from the imperial crown. The crown has a large ribbon eyelet on theback.Bluesilk moiré ribbon. Ribbon width - 10 cm.The Order of Saint AndrewMedal Design: The insignia of the order consisted of a badgeand star. The badge is an enameled crowned black double - headed eagle bearinga blue St. Andrew’s Cross (saltire) with St. Andrew crucified upon it; on thearms of the saltire were the Latin letters ‘SAPR‘ (‘St. Andrew, Patronof Russia’). It was worn on a pale blue sash over the right shoulder, or onspecial occasions on an elaborate ‘collar’ (chain). The star is aneight-pointed silver star bearing a miniature of the badge on a goldenbackground at the center, surrounded by the motto “For Faith and Loyalty” (Russian: Za Veru i Vernost) on a blue ring. The Order St. Andrew the Apostle the First -Called was established in 1698 by Tsar Peter the Great, in honor of SaintAndrew, the first apostle of Jesus and patron saint of Russia. It was bestowedin a single class and was only awarded for the most outstanding civilian ormilitary merit.
