Here we have another grill piece out of my personal collection. This is a group of insanely rare painted backgrounds from the 18th Mickey mouse short " CACTUS KID". Believe it or not the short came out May 10th 1930. I am a background guy and let me tell you this is probably my most prized piece. Good luck finding a 1930 Mickey mouse cel.... And there were 25 + cels for every background created. This is a historic lot. It doesn't get much better than this. And the cartoon you'll notice cactuses in the background. Those were overlays. I actually spotted one of the backgrounds that belonged to this lot sold on a while back on a very early Donald duck cel. The backgrounds on the left side connect perfectly. The other two are missing the connecting backgrounds which would make it one long piece. At some point the studio cut the panoramic background and must have used them for other cartoons possibly. I can't see any other reason for them to do that. This is one piece don't mind keeping. Stuff like this never hits the market so there is no set price or something like this.. the cactus kid short was the 18th Mickey mouse cartoon ever created. This cartoon was the first to feature marcelette Garner as the voice of Minnie mouse. This short also featured peg leg Pete who had been seen with two legs in the 1928 steamboat Willie and The galloping Gaucho. He is seen for the first time with a peg leg here in this Mickey mouse cartoon. THIS WAS THE LAST FILM DIRECTED BY WALT DISNEY HIMSELF until his ill judge return 5 years later with silly symphony short the Golden touch. WALT DISNEY ALSO DID THE VOICE ACTING FOR MICKEY MOUSE IN THIS SHORT! Walt Disney more than likely handle these backgrounds and oversaw every bit of the animation process. These backgrounds are nearly 100 years old and and are very fragile. There are some small chips on the bottom of a couple of them. But that means nothing. These are so rare that they could be broken in half and worth a fortune. Each background is 11 and 1/2 by 8 1/2 in. The total length here is roughly 11 and 1/2 by 50 inches
