From Lladró’s most delicate, artistic, & finely painted porcelain figurines, to plates & paintings of world renowned clowns, Pierrot, pantomime artist of the late 1700’s, & Emmett Kelly, who started his career in the 1920’s & enthusiastically & comedically entertained the world!

Just a bit of HISTORY:

Founded in 1953 by three brothers, Juán, José & Vicente Lladró, the LLADRÓ COMPANY was originally a small workshop located in the village of Almàssera near Valencia, Spain. Starting with small pottery items, the brothers eventually began expanding & making the figurines that became world renowned & we are familiar with today.

PIERROT dates back to the late 17th century & played a character known as the “Sad Clown”. He was well versed in pantomime & was part of an Italian troupe of players who performed in Paris, known as the Comédie-Italienne. He specialized in poetry, fiction, & mostly the visual arts, working on stage, screen, & in concert halls. His sad clown persona was often shown pining for the love of “Columbine”, who usually broke his heart & left him for “Harlequin”. Pierrot usually performed unmasked with a white face, wearing a loose white blouse with large buttons & wide white pantaloons. At times he appeared with a frilled collar & wide-brimmed hat & occasionally he wore a dunce's cap.

Born in 1898 in Sedan, Kansas, USA, EMMETT LEO KELLY started his career as a cartoonist & comedian. He later joined the circus & performed on a trapeze, doing various acts as a clown, hobo, & tramp. He later invented his legendary clown character, "Weary Willie", based on the hobos of the Great Depression in the 1930s.
