A truly stunning one-of-a-kind Museum Quality preservation standards framed U.S. historical rarity-

Lt. Col. GEORGE ARMSTRONG CUSTER

vs.

SITTING BULL

Magnificently museum preservation standards framed. We treat our framing as anart form.

All the elements were chosen to compliment this magnificent vintage western history collectible. The photographs of Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer leader of the 7th Calvary and Sitting Bull the Hunkpapa military, religious, and political leader who historians credit with masterminding the defeat of the 7th Calvary at the Battle of Little Big Horn are in mint condition and are hand colored.

The historic brass U.S. Military issue accouterment in this display is attributed to The Battle of Little Bighorn inoriginal "found" excavated condition, from a uniform of a soldier in the U.S. Seventh Cavalry. It was originally purchased from the fabled collection formed by Stephen B. Reed, the longest serving Mayor of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This piece, part of Reed's collection assembled in the1990s,was intended for inclusion in the National Museum of the Old West that was to be housed in the Pennsylvania State Capital. In 2003, Reed announced his plans for the museum, however budgetary concerns prevented it from opening and necessitated the breaking up and selling of the collection.

All the framing of this collection was done meticulously by hand. Our craftsmen using only the finest acid free museum grade preservation materials we could find painstakingly built this museum quality display using the highest quality heavy patriotic solid carved wood frame. The museum grade acid free brown suede matt boards we selected were also special ordered with each window opening accented and framed using matching beaded rope style wood filets. Each of the three (3)descriptive plates are mounted in their own rope style wood filet framed windows and are black lettered engraved brushed aluminum metal.

The custom laser engraved brushed aluminum center display plate reads as follows:

Battle of the Little Bighorn

The Battle of the Little Bighorn commonly referred to as Custer’s Last Stand was an armed engagement between the combined forces of the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and the Arapaho and the 7th Calvary Regiment of the United States Army.

The precise details of Custer's fight are largely conjectural since none of his men survived the battle. The US 7th Cavalry, including the Custer Battalion, a force of 700 men led by Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer, suffered major defeat. Five of the 7th Cavalry's 12 companies were annihilated and Custer was killed, as were two of his brothers, a nephew, and his brother-in-law. By almost all accounts, Custer and his men found themselves under attack by an estimated 3,000 armed braves. George Armstrong Custer’s 7th Cavalry were wiped out to the last man within an hour of engagement. The total US casualty count included 268 dead and 55 severely wounded.
