C. \"Cleophus\" Hagan, a Birmingham, Alabamablack man who made the military his career. He joined up ca. 1944 whereupon he served in England after his basic training; later he served in Japan during the American occupation of Japan - where he remained for some time after the occupation.The first 2 scans- and only 8x10 photo - show Sgt. Hagan receiving his commission 9 Dec, 1955 - 11 years after joining up. Photo (with much edgewear but still a decent and historic image) is identified on the verso and shows that Hagan must have been with the 919th Engineer Aviation Maintenance Company, 6010th Supply Squadron (SP). \\
Then, in a smaller photo, he\'s shown - in civies - in front of a building that says \"Company D\" at Tachikawa Air Base;
then there are 4 misc. photos including one of, presumably, his best friend in the service, Pedro Ballstein. Pedro\'s photo is stamped on the verso: Lollar\'s [Camera Shop], Birmingham Alabama, Jan. 7, 1946; (the other 3 photos in this scan seem to also be WW2 era or shortly thereafter);
then there is a smaller photo of Sam (another friend)and Pedro, Kadena Air Base, Okinawa July 1955 (photo image itself shows a sign saying 930th Engineer Aviation Group). This photo has some critter nibbling at the bottom edge but virtually all of the image is intact;
then there is a small photo of Cleophus at the beach, this photo id\'d on the verso as being Beach, July 1955, Okinawa;
then there are two 5x7 photos showing Pedro and 3 other soldiers in a parade, both photos are dated 23 October, 1954.
Finally, there is a studio photo of Cleophus in his Army uniform, taken by Empire Studios in London; it is date stamped by the studio: 4 June 1945 - on the verso. Sgt Hagan has signed and inscribed this photo to his mother who was living in Birmingham, Alabama at the time. Decent photographic record of a black soldier\'s military career, beginning toward the end of World War 2.Photos range from 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches up to 8x10.
I have one other - smaller - photo lot relating to Hagan (found at and listed at a later date than the lot described here). To see it, go to my store and do a search for the name HAGAN. (subject to prior sale).GOOD TO VERY GOOD - a couple have some moderate damage (but basic image NOT affected). Seeabove for fine print ... [sigh] ... but please read :-)
