I can not take enough pictures of this book. It is by Mrs. Farmer. Her husband served as a sailor an Indianapolis and Texas. They look like they married about 1934. He died of a heart attack while in Chefoo, China in 1939 while the world was just falling apart. They had twins that were 3 at the time.

From the contents you can see that they were very in love. There is a 5 page letter from him to her that looks like it was written after his death and I do not know if it was misdated as the telegrams from the Navy document his death and there is a telegram from the USS Blackhawk sending $400 for flowers for the funeral. I The Blackhawk was a destroyer tender that was homeported in Chefoo at that time.

The inside cover is a tribute to him. a photo of him on the INDY rangefinder a book plate or card from the Indy and a picture of their twins. Then there is a USS Texas Happy hour program from 1934 with wrestling and boxing and wrestling, USS Committee ribbon and tribute to a sailor's wife, USS Texas photo postcard from the 1934 Virgin Island trip, 4 telegraphs from Navy on his death, 5 page letter he wrote dated after his death which was in April and his letter is dated July and signed to the 3 dearest in my life Clarence.

there are prints, stuff from the hospital from the delivery of the twins, a long menu.. from the USS Coolidge, naughty cocktail napkin, party place cards for him and his wife from the USS Indianapolis, Indianapolis third anniversary dance booklet, Coolidge guest book from 1938 with her name, Uss Indianapolis 1927 dinner menu for their Christmas party in Long Beach, Coolidge guest book and tickets, Indianapolis match book, sailor funny coarse stuff, 1933 USS Saratoga dance invite, binnacle list USS Texas with his name, USS Argonne mail schedule for the fleet when he was on the Texas.

This is a special book. The story is a tragic story to be preserved. I may have some pieces wrong but that is the buyers to finish. It is the beginning story for the snake bit ship Indianapolis. It was sunk by a Japanese submarine near the end of WWII after delivering Atomic Bomb parts. Given it sunk in 12 minutes most were either trapped in the ship or died of sharks and exposure. There is a movie coming out on this. About 1,000 men died in the biggest US Navy loss of life. The book is very brittle as it was an inexpensive book and what the widow could afford. Pages are suffering and the cover has come off but it is all here!
