The LMTV is the light-medium 2.5-ton capacity fourwheel drive truck of the US Army\'s FMTV family. Itshares many components with its 6x6 5 ton sibling,including the engine (lower turbo boost) andtransmission.

The 4x4 LMTV is supplied as either a bare chassis(M1080), standard cargo (M1078, drop-side tray) or avan (M1079). The van body adds 635mm to the vehicle\'sheight but can be removed for air-transport.

History: The US Army\'s new Family of Medium TacticalVehicles (FMTV) with the intention thateventually all the existing (and ageing) mediumtrucks in the Army\'s inventory would be replacedby a modern and efficient design. Firstproduction vehicles were delivered to the USArmy in 1996. Since 2012 these trucks areproduced by Oshkosh Corporation.

Steyr 12M18, but considerably reengineered tobe available as the 4x4 2.5 tone Light MediumTactical Vehicle (LMTV) and the 6x6 5 toneMedium Tactical Vehicle (MTV). Both modelshave over 90 percent of components in commonsuch as the cab, engine, drive train, tyres,wheels, front suspension, axles, etc, while thisdesign involves many commercially availablecomponents. The basic LMTV is the M1078cargo truck while the 6x6 base is the M1083.

The M1078 standard cargo truck is designed totransport cargo and soldiers. It has a payloadcapacity of 2.27 t and to facilitate loading andunloading the bed-side rails are mounted on...

The cab accommodates driver and two passengers. Experience in Iraq led to development of anarmored cab. It is known as Low Signature Armored Cab (LSAC). Two man team can remove andreplace a standard cab by an armored cab in the field within 4 hours. The armored cab providesprotection for the occupants against small arms fire, artillery shell splinters and mine blasts. Thesewere widely used in Iraq and Afghanistan. Later a new Long Term Armor Strategy (LTAS) armoredcab appeared. It can adapt various armor levels, depending on the threat.

The FMTV is based on an Austrian truck, the hinges and can be lowered. The cargo bed can be equipped with an optional bench seat kit for thetransport of soldiers. The bench seats are constructed of a non-wood material and attach to thecargo bed side rails, and can be folded down and stowed when not in use. Soldiers are assistedwhen climbing in and out of the cargo bed area with the aid of a ladder, which is stowed on avehicle when not in use. A canvas and bows kit are available to keep both soldiers and cargoprotected from the elements. The M1078 can be equipped with optional electrically operatedself-recovery winch kit capable of fore and aft vehicle recovery operations.

Some versions of the LMTV are fitted with load handling cranes. Some versions are beingproduced as bare chassis for special bodies to be added. Both LMTV and MTV models use the same forward control cab which has features such as ease of maintenance and routine checkingfacilities. A machine gun mounting is provided with power steering and a fully automatictransmission coupled to a high efficiency and low emission Caterpillar diesel.

Throughout the exercise the M1078 FMTV accent has been on reliability, low unit and runningcosts, and long term efficiency, all aspects well demonstrated during a grueling series of selectiontrials which took place over a period of many months before selection of the Steyr design. TheFMTV family is destined to serve well into the 21st Century and is being offered for export sales inthe Far East and elsewhere.

2002 PRIBBS STEEL M105A3 CARGO TRAILER

This 2002 M105A3 single-axle cargo trailer is in excellent condition and was designed to transport cargo both on-road and cross-country. Its body is all steel and is provided with a hinged tailgate which extends the bed length, lattice-type side extensions, bows, a tarpaulin cover, adjustable pintle hitch and like new tires. The latest version, the A3 model, has a lengthened axle and increased ground clearance which improve tractability behind the towing vehicle. Additional improvements on the A3 model include an inertia actuated air- over- hydraulic brake system, a manual parking brake, leaf springs that provide a suspension for deep fording operations, an adjustable lunette and improved maintainability and corrosion resistance.
