Signed 1953 Gustone Ficker (Guarnerius) VIOLIN & F C Pfretzschner Bow

Description

ITEM: Offered for your purchase or reasonable best offer is this signed GUSTONE AUGUST FICKER VIOLIN from Mittenwald, Germany and made in 1953 after Joseph Guarnerius and with a period F. C. PFRETZSCHNER BOW (see pictures 24-30). These items were acquired together and in the pictured hard shell carrying case, which is also included. We had the bow re-haired and a new tip was also affixed. No repair or restoration has been undertaken on the violin. This violin and bow were apparently originally acquired from the shop of the prominent Philadelphia violin dealer William Moennig & Son (who closed shop in 2009 after more than 100 years in business!) as their label (see picture 35) is inside the maroon lined hardshell case. This fine instrument was acquired by us from the original owner, who carried it to school on a regular basis for a couple of years in the 1950\'s but then curtailed his interest in violin after noticing that the guys with guitars were somewhat more popular with the girls - resulting in his switching to guitar and this instrument being basically put into storage for about 50 years. (See pictures 22 and 23 for violin maker\'s label).

Approximate DIMENSIONS: The bow measures 29-1/8\" long and weighs 2.1 ounces. The violin itself weighs 15.3 ounces and measures 24\" end to end pin on a standard 14\" body which measures 8-1/2\" across the lower bout, 4-3/8\" at the center bout, and just over 6-1/2\" across the upper bout. The carrying case measures 30-3/4\" x 10\" and the net (before packing) weight of the entire outfit is 5 pounds 4-1/2 ounces.

CONDITION: As mentioned above, we had the bow professionally re-haired and a new tip was affixed. It is straight and in excellent original condition. The violin shows one thin hairline crack developing in the top of the lower bout nearby and running parallel to the tailpiece (see pictures 5 & 6). We see no other cracks or similar issues. Other than changing the G string we have done nothing to, nor had any repair or restoration performed on, the violin. Repair of the hairline and some finish restoration will probably be in order.

Shipping

IF this listing includes \'free\' shipping you will not be charged for packing and/or cushioning materials, postage, delivery confirmation service, or insurance as long as selection of shipping service is of our choice as outlined below AND the first three numbers of your \'ship to\' USPS Zip Code® are the same as in the Zip Code® provided to us by when we received your offer. However, we respectfully ask that when submitting an offer you please consider these expenses which we must absorb in order to provide you with so-called \'free\' shipping - especially in the case of large, heavy, bulky, or fragile items which may require larger boxes and/or if delivery will be more than 600 miles from Phoenix AZ (postal zones 4 thru 8).

We securely cushion and box all items for USPS mailing. We only ship to places within the 50 United States and selection of Parcel Select, Media Mail, First-Class Mail, Priority Mail, Priority Express, or Registered Mail service will be at our discretion. All shipments will include delivery confirmation service and loss or damage insurance (although we do reserve the right to self-insure low value packages) and the requirement for a delivery confirmation signature will be required on packages valued at $250 or more.

In lieu of accepting our conditions for free shipping, you do, of course, have the option of requesting another carrier or service for shipping rather than accepting our choice of USPS mailing but in that case you will be responsible for ALL packing, shipping, and insurance costs applicable to your shipment.

>>>>> In absolutely no instance will we ever be responsible for packing, shipping, or insurance costs related to returned merchandise.
