Vintage S. S. Stewart Slingerland Collegian banjo ukulele banjolele:

Slingerland Colligian banjo ukulele. I took this on as a repair project. New Tru-oil rubbed finish on pot and neck. The slingerland decal is intact. The sharp edges were removed from the frets. The neck feels really smooth.

I made a nice fitted nut from camel bone, as the original was missing. Grover friction pegs have been installed…i got one off a bit, but it works as good as the rest (pretty darned good).

The original tailpiece was pretty much unusable so I replaced it with a no-knot type that I did some fitting on. Put on a Dunlop bridge that looks to have the correct string spacing.

The wedge was split so I made a new one from osage orange. I also squared up the wedge slot a bit.

I removed some wood from the neck so it would not fit tight against the rim (as it should be). The original skin head is in fine shape.

New Aquila red strings installed and hold a tune nicely. I have had one string break, for apparently no reason, so if one of the strings is broken I am not responsible. Reds are notorious for breaking for no reason. I hope Aquila gets that figured out because I like them on my open back banjo.

I don’t know how this little banjo ukes are supposed to sound, but this one is seems pretty loud for such a small instrument. I would keep it, but I have thick fingers that don\'t fit well on these old narrow fretboards.

The pictures show it all pretty good, but why I didn’t dust it off first, I don’t know.

If you are looking for an old banjo uke that is ready to play…and should stay that way for a while, this is a good option. I am not looking to make a lot of money on this instrument, but I would like to get my money back at least!
