1723 HiberniaHalfpenny. Martin 4.59-Gc.4. Rarity-3.Fine, well struck, and with all the design detail expected for thegrade, as well as full, sharp legends and date.Darker brown surfaces, lightly and evenly rough as is often found on circulatedexamples of the type, and with some light hairline scratches on the obversethat are old and toned down, so not bad at all for a well-used specimen. This example is from the TED CRAIGEcollection, one of the best modern collections formed and off the market fornearly a half century, and comes in his original handwritten envelope, a pieceof numismatic history. The Syd Martinwork, recently published by C4, finally allows collectors to pursue thesefascinating coins by die variety instead of just by vague types. Syd – well known to collectors as the editorof the C4 Journal – has written a book that contains EVERYTHING one would everneed to know about the series. Extensivelyresearched, with an incredible number of photographs, this is a labor of loveand a template for any other researcher to follow, as it is easy to use, makeslogical sense in its layout, and lets the collector explore as much as he wantsto within the series.

This generaltype is pictured and listed on Page 45 of the 2013 edition of The Redbook[which has had massive pricing updates, and is now FAR more accurate than itever has been, even though it resulted in lowering of prices for many commontype coins!], where Fine examples are listed at $75; this is offered hereWITHOUT RESERVE.
