1760 Voce PopuliHalfpenny. Nelson 4, Zelinka 2-A, Breen221, the “Imperial Head.” Rarity-3. Very Fine, nearly of the full EF level in termsof wear received, the surfaces not quite up to par with the grade level. Boldly struck, the legends and date all razorsharp, and with design detail equal to the higher grade – including thedistinct obverse bust which gives the accurate nickname for the variety. Russet brown surfaces, lightly but evenly rough– a coin that probably spent some time buried, but if it was lost it was doneclose to the time it was minted since there is no real wear on the coin. While the surfaces do have lesser appealbecause of the roughness, the coin is free of damage or defect from circulation– no nicks or scratches or anything like that.For the collector who wants a coin with a LOT of detail, but doesn’twant to spend the money associated with a high grade coin, this is a wonderfulcompromise. This general type is pictured and listed on Page 49 of the 2013 editionof The Redbook [which has had massive pricing updates, and is now FAR moreaccurate than it ever has been, even though it resulted in lowering of pricesfor many common type coins!], where Very Fine coins are priced at $300; this isoffered here WITHOUT RESERVE.
