HERE is a genuineSOUTH CAROLINA3 DOLLAR COLONIAL CURRENCY NOTE dated December 23, 1776.

Features vignette of an oracle with Latin legend FATA VIAM INVENIENT (The Fates will Find a Way). Denomination III DOLLARS at top, and equivalent in Sterling (4 Pounds, 17 Shillings, 6 Pence) at bottom. Back has III DOLLARS at top, DEATH TO COUNTERFEIT below. Sterling Value at center surrounded by small Hebrew letters (as anti-counterfeiting devices). CHARLES-TOWN (modern Charleston), Printed by Peter Timothy, 1777.

The wording on the front of the note is as follows:

\"SOUTH CAROLINA. This BILL intitles the Bearer to receiveTHREE Spanish milled DOLLARS, or the value thereof in Gold or Silver, according to an Act of the General Assembly passed, at CHARLES-TOWN, the 23d Day of December, 1776.\"
