Issued and signed.Schulykill County, Pennsylvania.Signed by US Rep. Henry Dunning Moore, see history below. Along with managing this company, Moore also managed the \"Daisy\" silver mines in Leadville, Colorado until his death there in 1887. Rare early issue, low serial #12. Unique train and mining vignettes. Civil War USIR 25c revenue stamp on front. Missing small piece of top right corner.


Henry Dunning Moore(April 13, 1817 – August 11, 1887) was aWhigmember of theU.S. House of life

Henry D. Moore was born inGoshen, New York. He moved with his parents toNew York Cityin 1828. He attended the publicschoolsand engaged in thetailoringbusiness. He moved toPhiladelphiain 1844 and engaged in themahoganyandmarblebusiness.

Political career

Moore was elected as a Whig to He was not a candidate for reelection in1852. He was an unsuccessful candidate formayor of Philadelphiain 1856. He was a delegate to the1860 Republican National Convention.

He was electedState treasurerduringGovernorCurtin’s administration and served from 1861 to 1863 and 1864 to 1865. He was appointed collector of the port of Philadelphia on March 30, 1869, and served until March 26, 1871, when he resigned.

Russia

He traveled inEuropeand resided inSt. Petersburg,Russia, from 1870 to 1877.

Mining

He managed the Preston Coal Company in Pennsylvania from 1866-1869. He became associated with and managed thesilverminesknownas “The Daisy” in Big Evens Gulch nearLeadville, Colorado, from 1885 until his death there in 1887.

Death

Originally interred in Monument Cemetery in Philadelphia, he was reinterred in 1956 at Lawnview Cemetery inRockledge, Pennsylvania.
