Incorporated (in 1884) Under the Laws of the Territory of New Mexico - Very rare stock certificate. I am only aware of one other example. GRANT COUNTY, NEW MEXICO printed beneath the Peacock vignette. Shares worth $10 each. Office at St. Louis, Missouri. Wm. A. Ross, secretary. Printed by Woodward & Tiernan, St. Louis.

Here is some information I recently received about the Peacock Mine:

Owned the Silver Bar Extension No. 1 which was adjacent to the Silver Bar No. 1. (Also known as the \"Cooney\" Mine) in the district of the same name. The Cooney Mining District, named after discoverer Capt. James Cooney, is located in a major drainage north of the Mogollon District in present day Catron County, New Mexico.

The name of the company is derived from the nature of the ore - sulphides of copper such as bornite, which when oxidized often displays many colors of the rainbow - thus the name \"Peacock\". Ore contained some native silver.

Condition: Three folds - no tears
