I recently purchased this at sale. I don\'t know much about mandolins, but I have a general knowledge of instruments.
This is in amazing condtion for being 116 years old. The lining, the bridge, and the frets are all amazingly nice. There is a small split (with no gap) on the back (looks very old), and what appear to be some stress cracks in the finish on the peghead.
The finish appears to be original, and is in excellent condition. There is some discoloration on the spruce(?) top, but the bowl, neck. and peghead are excellent.
I strung it with some modern strings (extremely detuned because I wasn\'t sure how much tension these were meant to have) to check it out. I don\'t play the mandolin, but everything seems ok.The case is missing the latch and the handle, but the lining is still nice, and it is structurally solid.
