Here is an original1918Springfield Bayonet for the 1903 or M-1 GarandRifle with an interesting history. The bayonet began life as a 16\" bayonet for the 1903and ended up with the AEF in France during WWI. The bayonet still bears theremnants of the\"X12\" under the eagle stamp on the blade near the serial number. The stamp is well wornwith the eagle beingalmost non-existent but the X12 is clearly visible. This marking is seen on 1903 Springfields and bayonets that went to France to support the AEF, keep in mind that most rifles supporting our soldiers and Marines were SMLE\'s, P-14\'s, and P-17\'s. This bayonet was laterconverted during WWII by UFH (UnionFork and Hoe) to the 10\" configuration. The UFH stamp is weakly marked on the blade between the serial number and US. This bayonet was then sent as part of the MAP (Military Assistance Program) to halt the spread of Communism in Europe in the 1950\'s. It was later returned to the US in the 1990\'s, really an interesting evolution. The tip of the scabbard was damaged at some point and repaired by the Greeks with the application of a protective metal tip.
