offered is a nice version 1934 art deco machine age \"match king\" bakelite pocket striker lighter. the match king features a enamel on metal wrap advertisement for the 1934 chicago century of progress worlds fair exposition. this is a rare match king featuring the modernistic hall of science building. the nicely made lighter features a pull out striker wand with side edge flint channel. the striker works by striking a flint on the side. the underside is marked the \"match king\" chicago usa pat pend. the match king was invented by henry schiff of chicago in 1933 as shown in patents. match kings were manufactured in chicago and there are likely over 50 chicago fair \"match king\" versions. the lighter measures about 1-3/42\" tall x 1-1/8\" across and is in good used condition. there are typical strike marks - use wear and some minor brassed spots that detract. there is partial old flint that will easily come out. the underside has some unknown remnants that may clean. the match king lighter is showy and would look nice with any pocket striker or chicago worlds fair collection. overall - a fun - colorful machine age industrial pocket striker lighter for your collection. patents are not included in sale and can be emailed to winning buyer upon request. overseas is first class airmail.
