This listing is for a rare 1954 Rare Paris Selmer 24B Pre K-Modified, in Near Mint Professionally restored andRe-Lacqueredcondition, acollector instrument! This horn is a .460\" ML Bore, that are becoming very difficult to find in any condition compared to the 24b K-Modified! Finish is approximately100%! The horn is dent free and one very tiny ding hardly noticeable, and some very light scratches on the bell horn! (The serial number is in the 14,xxx range,! Horn was been play tested and it plays great. Compression on valves is very good/excellent, all slides \"Pop\" when extended,all slide tolerance isexcellence and new silver nickel plated,valves arevery fast and with no noticeable wear and there is no evidence of repairs of any kind on this horn that is apparent! The tone is very rich, broad and dense, projection is powerful with excellent slotting from bottom to top end of trumpet! Included is the trumpet,#5C gold platted mouthpiece, and near mintoriginal Selmercase!

When Selmer (Paris) made the change over to the K-Modified models, in an effort to reach more of the casual player/youth market, they saw fit to reduce the resistance factor in the horns. The result was a much more free blowing instrument which among other things, allowed the sound to become markedly less focused. I have played MANY 24B K-Modified Selmer Paris trumpets in side by side comparison tests with my (and other owners) 24A and 24B pre K-Modified Selmers. Believe me when I say that there is little comparison in the carrying power of the \"pre\" models (very strong, brilliant, focused sound) versus the \"K\" models (less carrying power, less cutting edge, spreading sound). If you are going to perform this test, execute it in a large (Hollywood Paladium, for example) venue. For your judge, utilize a highly qualified lead man. Put that person against the wall farthest from the point at which you are standing (at least 100 feet away). DON\'T use a microphone. Play something like Autumn Nocturne or Trumpeter\'s Prayer....really BLOW!!! Unless your judge is stone deaf or a complete nit wit, the favorable qualities of the pre K-Modified Selmer Paris trumpet will be VERY obvious. Hence, NO CONTEST!!
