Bold and unlike any others produced, Shaw Walker amalgamated Aluminium and maple together to produce a chair design that stands still totally as unique.
Over engineered and robust, the front legs are solid block lumber. Slats are inserted into the frame of the chairs. They are in original condition. They have not been cleaned or reconditioned. The seats are covered in a durable dark red cloth. We were able to find pictures matching the seat covers online so we believe the covers to also be original. There are no tears or fraying of the seats. Wear consistent with age and use.
The style works well with Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern and is a perfect example of Industrial Design. Retains their stamp of Shaw Walker on the rear.
We were unable to confirm if the three digit numbers attached to the bottom of each chair is original. They are riveted on and look original to the eye. The numbers are 635, 638, 640, 642, and 643. They are visible in the two pictures showing the grey bottoms of the seats.
The last two pictures show the known damage. One of the chairs has some dark residue that might be floor wax on the legs. The last picture shows a small crack circled in red that is on the seat of the only chair with armrests.
