1960 Fender Tremolux Tweed
For sale is my 1960 Fender Tremolux tweed amp. Serial number 03124. The date stamp on the tube chart is JG which indicates a manufacture date of July, 1960. Although the tube chart has the circuit listed as a 5E9-A, it is actually a 5G9 fixed bias amp like the ‘59 –’60 tweed Bassman. The fixed bias amp has the light blue square selenium rectifier located on the chassis near the pilot light and the electrolytic caps under a cover on back of the chassis. The amp has its original power transformer a Triad 8160, the original output transformer 125A1A dated 20th wk of 1960 and the original choke 125C1A dated the 11th week of 1960. The speaker is the original Jensen P12Q speaker. The speaker’s date code is 220009 which indicates a manufacture date of the 9th week of 1960. There are two changed caps on the chassis (orange caps) and the 4 guitar input jacks have been changed. The original jacks are included in the sale. The power cord has also been changed. The amp comes with a new repo 50’s foot switch. These are the only electronic components that have been changed, everything else is original. The control panel chrome is in very good condition with some minor pitting. The white lettering is in excellent condition. The handle is the original but it is getting dried out and has a partial tear. I will include a new leather replacement handle.
The tweed and grill are original and are in very good condition for an amp that is 56 years old. As with any piece of electronic equipment that is 56 years old, the possibility that the amp could require servicing at any time is always a consideration.
