Up for sale a 1964 Gibson SG Junior in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Boasting a lustrous, unfaded original cherry nitro lacquer finish, this is a clean, collector-grade example that lives up to the old adage \"it sounds as good as it looks.\" Tonally, this is an extremely clear and powerful sounding instrument, with an acoustic voice that has surprising projection and top end snap that translates very well through the original dog-ear P-90 pickup. The growl, harmonic content and sweet, singing quality of a great P-90 is an instantly recognizable tone, and this guitar delivers this iconic sound in spades. The solid mahogany body adds a certain richness to the sound, and through your favorite tube amp you\'ll find the guitar to be extremely dynamic and responsive to subtle shifts in your playing style. Weighing a mere 6lbs on the dot, you\'d be hard pressed to find a lighter and more balanced instrument with this kind of versatility and tone! The neck retains the full pre-1965 nut width of 1 11/16\" and the neck profile is the perfect compromise between Gibson\'s fairly distinct 50s and 60s shapes. The C profile starts out as a modest handful down at the nut with well rounded shoulders and moderate depth, graduating to full \"baseball bat\" territory by the time you reach the 7th fret and as deep and girthy as any 50s Gibson neck by the time you reach the octave at the 12th fret. It\'s a wonderful profile that conforms well to the palm and has more substance than most Gibson necks of the era. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard sports the original fretwire with ample height and well rounded crowns. By all accounts the frets retain their full, original height, with only light wear down in the \"cowboy chord\" area down near the nut. There is faint flattening of the crowns beneath the plain strings until roughly fret 9, but even this wear is extremely light and the guitar plays very well with no buzzing or dead spots. On the headstock, the original nickel Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines are intact with original white buttons.
All of the electronics work as they should, with original pots, untouched solder joints and an original, famed \"Bumblebee\" tone capacitor. The stock reflector cap knobs are present, as well as the stock \"lightning bolt\" wraparound tailpeice and nickel studs. The studs have plenty of height left for future adjustment, and the wraparound design helps this SG deliver a tone that has incredible zing and top end without being harsh or brittle. The original pickguard is present as well and only missing one small tip on the treble side horn where the guard has slightly shrunk over the decades.
Cosmetically, this guitar is very clean and perfect for the serious collector, studio player or gigging musician. The guitar has zero cracks or repairs and the nitro lacquer finish is unfaded, with no touchups or overspray. There is one mark of note, central to the back of the instrument that doesn\'t go through the finish, and some stray, small dings around the body contours, particularly on the waist on the bass side of the body. These marks, however, are still very minor and typical of an instrument that has been well cared for and lovingly played. There is also light wear along the top edge of the headstock and one nick on the neck profile directly behind the 1st fret that doesn\'t affect playability in any way.
