1986 Chevrolet D10 Blazer M1009 CUCV K5 Military Vehicle:
$8000.00

1986 Chevrolet K5 Blazer M1009 CUCVThis is a retired military blazer made under the commercial utility cargo vehicle program. It is basically the same as the commercially available K5 blazer, but the government had a couple of slight changes made. The engine is a 6.2L naturally aspirated diesel (good power, decent fuel economy). This engine has been thoroughly inspected, and all normal wear parts have been recently replaced. This vehicle has a 3 speed TH400HD transmission. These transmissions are very strong and very reliable. I had this one rebuilt 10,000 miles ago, and upgraded the internal components to make it even stronger. The axles are 10 bolt GM axles with a locker in the rear. The suspension and brakes are heavier than the commercial 3/4 ton versions. The electrical system is a dual alternator 24v over 12 volt system. That basically means that the charging system, batteries, and starter are a 24v system, but everything else is reduced to 12v.This truck runs and drives great. I bought this in rough shape and rebuilt it as a project. I worked for 12 years as a wheeled vehicle mechanic for the Army and after I got out I wanted to work on one of my own. I have driven this daily for about 2 years, but I have recently bought a different truck, so now this one needs to go.New stuff:
Recent transmission rebuild ($2,400)
Recently had the injector pump rebuilt by standyne ($500)
All new rubber weather seals, door strips, and window felts ($300)
New Dash ( $400)
New 33x12 mud tires ($1,600)
New front brakes
New Radiator, thermostat, coolant ($550)
New remote transmission cooler ($150)
Recently changed fluids in engine, transmission, axles, transfer case, etc.
New spare tire ($200)
New batteries ($300)
Softtopper brand soft top (easily folds down, rolls up, or remove completely)( $1,000)
Paint job is about 2 years old
Custom built center console made from ammo cans with built in radio
Total cost to build this vehicle was well over $10,000. There are old blazers out there for half the price I\'m asking, but if you are thinking about building one yourself remember these vehicles are almost 30 years old and need a lot of work to get them back in reliable condition. This one is already restored to reliable condition and is a great deal. Two negatives:
It is fairly loud to drive (not overly loud, just loud like an older diesel truck)
It does not have A/C (A/C kits are available, I just never got around to adding it. It does have heat.)This vehicle is not in perfect condition. There are many imperfections in the paint, and a couple of very small rust spots. The body has been patched in a few places, and the patches are fairly obvious. It was a military utility vehicle, and it was never intended to look or function as a show truck. However, it is in great mechanical condition, and everything is in great functional shape. I have driven it on several long trips with no major issues. The odometer says 51,000 miles and based on the condition of the engine I would not doubt if that were the original mileage, however I have no way to verify that since this is an old odometer that rolls over at 100,000. I have driven it off-road a few times and it is amazingly capable. While it isn\'t a show truck, I frequently get stopped by people who want to look at it and take pictures. I hate to see it go, but I needed a pickup truck and I can\'t justify maintaining two big vehicles.
