NATIVEGOLD QUARTZSPECIMENfrom the MOTHER LODERuler is 1/4\" wide (6 mm). U.S. 10 cent coin is 17 mm in diameter.
Specimen weight: 68.9 Grains (Troy) - 4.4 Grams Size: 19.7X19.7X12.8 mm Here\'s no run-of-the-mill rock, it\'s a piece of U.S. mineralogical history. Until this rock arrived, my understanding was thatiron sulphides and freegold rarely occurred together. The piece you\'re looking at blasts that notion out of the water. It\'s from a mine in California\'s Sierra Nevada mountain range. Along with a considerable amount of visible, high-purity gold is a black mineral, and, in one zone, a good-sized exposure of silvery pyrite. It\'s quite an unusual and lovely piece not to mention, rich!I guarantee the goldgrowth is a natural occurrence. Allmy specimensshow visible gold and areauthenticgold quartz specimens.
As the operator/sole proprietor of Gold of Eldorado, I actively mined gold for 18 years. Beginning long ago, perhaps in a past life, something in the golden mystique of this rare, precious metal attracted me to it. Searching for Au (gold) and working with it in it\'s multitude of forms has become a lifetime passion. This is what fuels my desire to bring exciting creations and discoveries of gold to your notice. Here is one such discovery, a truly amazing marraige of gold, quartz, and iron sulphide (pyrite). This is a far different animal from what you may be accustomed to seeing or collecting.
I don\'t paste\'pounded gold\' or spray gold paintonbarren rock. The few refractory gold ores I sell (and this is one such instance) contain both visible gold as well as pyrite. PLACER GOLD DEPOSITS & REDEPOSITS
by Eldorado Gene Here\'s some personal observations about prospecting forplacer gold.They\'re basedupon 18 years of experienceexploringboth wet and dry placer-fields. Inthe lower 48, if the main drainage exiting a gold source area held decent-paying ground originally, chances are goodthe old time minersplundered it, but there\'s still glimmers ofhope.During the intervening years, intermittent high waters continue toerode creekbanks and cut intooldtailings and/or diggings; so, to a limited extent, lost gold and clip zone gold might still be replenishing these drainages. Not every old dig was worked out completely. Suffice it to say that shallower gravels were, and continue to be,far easier to prospect and mine than those propertieswithdeep gravel deposits. Of the many claims I\'ve prospected with pickaxe and shovel, it was rare not to be able to scare up a little gold somewhere. Somewhat surprising to me was the fact thatthese were, in most cases, shallow placers which stood a good chance of having been worked extensively in the past. Just goes to show there\'s truth to the old adage, \"there\'s no man big enough to get it all\". Finding traces here and there isn\'t going to cut it for \'big operators\', but it might be enough to satisfy \'the itch\' for many small scale and recreationalminers. The depth ofancient channels, the density of the alluvial pack, and the concentration of bouldersoften makes thorough testing for virgin deposits impossible (byhand methods). In the case of deep gravel deposits(i.e. 20 up to 100 feet),withsomuch sedimentary rocklayered on top of older alluvial strata, theremight beboocoountested, unworked bedrock material remaining ontheseproperties, butthere remainsthe needforlarge excavators to reach potential paystreaks/pay-layers.In gold country, one can never know what values lie 5 feetinside an 80 foot deepstretch of remnant river channel the \'giants\' of yesteryear failed to blastaway.Finding payableredeposits (or avirgin paypack)takes thorough testing andthe onis is on you to make that determination.Wherever thegoldfieldyou happen to be prospecting in, sedimentsneed tobesampled for gold across their entire widthwhether it\'s acreek, river, or drywash. It may even be advisable to occasionallysample the overburden. If you\'re familiar with mountainous terrain, you know what a tall order thisis, an impossible task in many cases. The linear and verticalscaleencountered insome expansive canyonlands makes for tough sampling due to the sheervolume of potential deposits.Only operators loaded for bear with gigantic excavators, cats, front-end loaders, and such can open up andtest such ground effectively. The general rule is that any paydirt foundin channels, whether they are recently deposited sediments, or of evengreater antiquity (Quaternary to Tertiary ageand older), will be concentrated on, in,just above bedrock, or any combination of those three pay zones. In many instances, good-paying flood gold desposits might be encountered in the uppermost strata ofthe most recently-deposited stream/river gravels. Anything goes in desert and pediment-type deposits. In drier climes and areas where shallow-seated lode deposits continue to shed gold, the object of your desires might be discovered very close to the surface. Theserepresent ideal targets for MDers hunting themanydry regions of the world.Sampling and not finding anythingcan become very disheartening, but stopping too soon in yourprospecting programmeans ifa paystreak\'s there, you mightoverlook italtogether. Now, with much higher gold prices, thereare potentiallyvaluable golddeposits inmanysedimentary formations which might not formerly have been profitable to mine. Ancient \'auriferous\' channel remants can bevirtually anywhere and oftenhave beenfoundmiles from existant, flowingwaterways.Extensive sampling is critical. Don\'t forget, if you save ten thousand dollars by\'not\' purchasing alousy claim, you\'vethousands to invest in a promising claim someplace else.
