This is a clear, bead-necklightning-closure, square fruit jar, embossed ACME with a shield, with a Schram-Glass-styledonut base. It still has alarge part of its original label, reading OLD TAVERN BRAND above a sign withOLD TAVERN (oval picturingthe Old Tavern and TRADE MARK) BRAND THE BERDAN CO.TOLEDO, OHIO…SHED 1836REGISTERED U.S. PATENT…1902.Berdan is the company that sold the CHEF fruit jars, some marketed forhome canning and others packed with the company’s Old Tavern mustard. This is yet another home canningjar, intended for reuse as a canning jar, packed no doubt with Old Tavern mustard,although that bottom strip of the label is missing.
