This is a 40\" antique china head doll from the mid to late 1800\'s. An Adelina Patti head....hairstyle with a center part, rolled hair with elaborate curls.The body is made of cloth withsawdust as the filling. No sawdust leaking at all. The body seems to be in excellent shape. The head and shoulder plate needs to have a few stitches on the cloth attachmentsto keep it in place. I have pictures of the front and back of the head and shoulder plate for you to see this. The hands and arms have no damage. The arms go up approximately 1/2 way with the porcelain and the rest is cloth with sawdust stuffing.

Her clothing looks like home made but done very professionally. She has a petticoat under the dress with wonderful detail as shown in the picture.This petticoatdoes have about 4 smaller thangolf-ball size brown stains which cannot be seen when the doll is fully dressed. Alsosome very slight yellowing of the white material. I could not include these photos but if interested please contact me and I will upload the photos for you. Not enough photo spots to include every photo. Her lacey tights are torn as you can also witness. Her antique leather boots are worn on the bottom. Her dress has 2 slightyellowstains, one a dot size on the hem area and one on the upper portion that is about 1 inch long. The doll corset is a wonderful addition....no damage as far as the eye can see. It has never been taken off the doll by myself.

She sits very well on a chair or bed. What a great addition to an older periodhome or just your doll collection.

Please remember this doll isabout 150 years old. You are getting an antique doll that has been used in yesterday.When buying an antique such as this you have to expect imperfections.

Items in my shop are veryfragile. We package them very well and prevent movement in the box, but I do insure them as well. Any damage to the item upon arrival will have to be addressed by the USPS by filing a claim. I do not take items back because as you can expect the back and forth of mailing might ruin the antique. History

Antique China dolls were made by various, mostly German companies from 1836 to the 1940s. Glazed porcelain China head dolls (unglazed porcelain dolls are referred to as Parian dolls) are usually found on a wood, cloth or kid body with some dolls having partial China limbs as well. Most China dolls found, have molded painted hair, but some have a wig over a solid bald dome head. China head dolls range in size from a tiny 3 inches to a big and very heavy 40 inches tall.

China head dolls are usually unmarked, some may have a mold number or doll makers mark on the back of the neck or on the shoulder plate, thus it can be impossible to pinpoint the doll maker, so dolls are described and identified by the type of hairstyle. As hairstyles changed over the long history of China head doll making, dolls changed too, which gives us a clue to their dating.
