For your consideration is this antique cast iron column stove. It measures 42 1/2\" tall and 31 1/2\" wide across the \"shelf\" that overhangs the front. Cast into the inside of the front doors is a patent date of 1844. I don\'t see any other markings but evidently these were made for a short time in the 1830\'s-1840\'s in various fancy styles by a few select companies, mostly in upstate New York. A few minutes on line will bring you up to speed. This actually is one of the more elaborate ones that as near as I can tell was made by the firm of Ransom & Rathbone. To me, it remains pretty well preserved although it is missing a couple things. There should be a plate that lays flat and covers the opening in front of the front doors. The hole in the top of the fire box would have had a small urn that was used to hold something fragrant to allow a pleasant scent to move throughout the room. While the fancy cast work between the columns is fine, it appears from photos that there may have been more fancy work on top of the stove. That being said, I\'m not certain they all had it, and while there are a couple small casting \"shoulders\" on top of the stove where something may have been attached, there isn\'t any blatant evidence that anything was there in the first place. There may have been, I can\'t say for sure. The front doors open freely, the side door does not. The vent is also frozen. There is a small piece of the casting missing on the lower front right hand corner of the firebox with some deterioration that you can stick your finger in. (See 7th photo) The 2 panels that make up the back of the fire box are pushed slightly inward and show separation between them as well as along their bottom edge. The panels themselves look fine. See next to last photo. All 4 legs are present and accounted for, remove and reattach without a problem and don\'t show evidence of any repair. As I said, for basically a barn found piece it presents itself quite well. Please e-mail with any questions, thanks. This is not something that can be shipped package express.I\'m happy to work with the shipper of your choice.
