*5 Clawed Dragon*Fire, Earth,Waves, Mountains*Eight Precious Things-Parasol, Conch, Double Fish, Endless Knot, Canopy, Vase, Wheel of Chakra, Lotus*PearlsEtc.This highly embroidered Chinese textile is hand embroideredthroughout using the Kesi brocade/woven technique. Midnight blue jacket is lined in pink floral damask silk and has gold metallic trim along the edges and arms. This jacket is a bit of a mystery to me. I believe the embroidery dates to the late 1700’s/early 1800’s but may be earlier/later. This may have been a priest ceremonial jacket? or more likely a jacket made for the Western visitor from an early Chinese robe? If so, the jacket itself is early judging by the style and was most likely made in the 1800’s. The front has 4 smokey colored mother of pearl carved buttons.
This fine textile does have damage as shown (mainly tearing and discoloration to interior lining and metallic trim). Due to the tearing some of the fine kesi embroidery has been exposed and is shown in a photograph showing the back. The metallic trim is woven on blue silk.
A very unique piece for study, repair or disassembled for framing utilizing the many beautiful pieces. Metallic trim is beautiful in itself!Size:Approx. 22\" long from the top of the neckline to bottom hem. Underarm width18\"...a rare & wonderful addition to any antique chinese textile collection!
Condition: Embroidery is clean and in remarkable condition for age and fragility. Interior silk has damage. Seaming along one arm has come undone (which exposes the detailing of the underside of Kesi embroidery).
