This is an Authentic G. Wostenholm & Son Farrier Knife Made in Sheffield, EnglandBetween 1848 and 1875, at Which Time the Company Incorporated. The blade stamps are I*XL and G. Wostenholm & Son, Washington Works, Sheffield England. During this time, a very large percentage of knives made by G. Wostenholm & Son were made for the United States market, especially during the Civil War. This knife coule easily predate the Civil War, or it may have been made for that market. Wostenholm has made knives since the early 1700s. This is not a modern knife or a copy. It is old and quite rusted, but a nice collector knife. This knife is coming out of a collection of these 1848-1875 G Wostenholm & Son Farrier knives. The collection will be sold over time. Own a piece of very old history that is proven by the blade stamps.
