Greetings ladies and gentlemen, thank you for taking your valuable time and interest in this piece I am offering here today, thank you, I appreciate it. This delightful little mechanical antique is called a griesbaum whistler for those of you that are unaware, highly collectible and just very cool novelty items that are propelled and automated by clockwork mechanisms, very interesting.
I\'m going to start with the only two flaws on this piece, one chip in the carved wood on the outside just above the rear access door (see pics) and the bellow has been recovered using the wrong material and therefore DOES NOT sound off like it should. I have three of these identical whistlers and I just don\'t need three. This is the most common carving motif that is most often seen so, would be a nice entry level purchase for the new comer collector, obviously the rarer the carved figure, the more one can expect to pay.
Other than the two flaws mentioned previously, it works perfectly, mainspring is in tact, winds up with relative ease, on switch and auto shut off is operating correctly, valve rod is opening and closing the valve, whistle plunger is moving back and forth, cam wheels look OK, no apparent slop in the movement, head is swinging back and forth and at the top of the wind, fully wound, the action is strong enough to hear and distinguish a proper audible whistling tune so, with the proper bellow repair, this piece will work just fine.
The bellow recovering is not for an amateurso, if you plan on purchasing this piece and do not possess the skills to properly recover the bellow, I suggest you take it to someone who does possess the proper skills. The material that should have been used is called \"Zephyr\" skin or a very very thin leather material with better sealing properties than the material that is currently on it. I can not spare any zephyr skin I have on hand but, I can include extra bellows for parts if needed, let me know. The piece is smothered with the griesbaum trademark, on the lamp, on the base, on the battery cover, on the movement itself, everywhere. I installed batteries and the lamp does come on and shut off when you activate the movement and his head does turn back and worth while in operation.
A little bellow work and you\'ll have a great perfectly functional piece, I have other items listed, cuckoo clocks, music box, GB clock and misc items if your interested, take a look. The clock/item will be very well packed/protected for shipping so it arrives to it\'s new destination safely. All I need is a name and address to send it too. Measurements: Clock/item is 19\" H, 5\" W, 3 1/2\" D. Clock/item will be shipped with crown pediment, weights and pendulum removed. Set up instructions included.
