ANTIQUE ORIGINAL AUTHENTIC PALMETTO ARMORY OF COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE REBEL SOLDIER ENLISTED MANS CAVALRY SWORD WITH SCABBARD & PIG SKIN SWORD KNOT BY WM. GLAZE. It is based on the U.S. Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Sword that the Northern Union Cavalry used. Measures 43\" long overall in scabbard with a 36\" curved steel blade in excellent condition with no bends or damage. The metal scabbard is in excellent non dented condition as well. The brass guard and original black leather and wire wrap is beautiful. This sword is so very nice it is amazing and authentically real! I bought this from a Nationally recognized Confederate Arms Dealer, Wallace Markert of CS Acquisitions Museum for my personal collection. He has sold to museums of every size as well as the biggest collectors in the world. His fine reputation is undisputed among Confederate arms dealers and collectors alike.Let me tell you about the history of this sword. They were ordered by the State of South Carolina for their militia 10 years before the outbreak of the Civil War. Palmetto Armory owned by William Glaze had them made in Germany by Schnitzler & Kirschbaum (S&K). They were stamped COLUMBIA S.C. on the side of blade near the hilt just as this one is. Jump ahead 10 years and they were used in the Civil War by Southern Cavalry. This is a real Confederate sword at a price much less than most. All parts are original pre - Civil War 1851-53 , the years the sword was made. The sword knot is also authentic and made of pig skin commonly used on Southern sabres.
