ANTIQUE SHAGREEN CASED DRAFTING SET:

This is an outstanding example of a very old drafting set. According to the book\"Drawing Instruments\" by Maya Hambly this type of shagreen (manta ray or sharkskin)was made in the late 1700s, probably near 1780. The case is approximately 7\" tall by 1\" deep by 3 3/4\" wide at the top. It contains 5 finely crafted brass and steel instruments and an ivory6\" scale. The instruments are in excellent condition as is the case but the scale has a small crack at the top. There is one empty bay in the case. It hasone of the former owners names written in ink in the top but I can find no makers name. The clip that holds the top shut works as it should.
