Overview: The sound of the Tibetan Conch Shell Trumpet known as a \'Dung-Dkar\', has been used as an instrument throughout the recorded history of religious music in Tibet, used during ritual ceremonies as part of a Tantric belief, as a sacred element of peace and good energy. Before Buddhism was introduced to the region the Tibetan religion was the Shamanistic \"Bon\", and in that context the \'dung-dkar\' was used to invoke and call the spirits to help cultivate the growth of crops, raise cattle, and even to banish evil spirits that caused illness and destruction. xxxxIn modern day Tibetan Buddhism, the dung-dkar is mainly found in Buddhist monasteries and performances, and is rarely used as a secular instrument, alternatively it is a fine altar offering to Buddha, representing the \'Melodious sound of the Dharma\", said to make the ghost panic and Buddha happy.

Description: A ceremonial Trumpet formed from a white-spiraling Conch Shell (species - turbinella pyrum) from the indian ocean, heavily ornamented with ornate patterns of silver Buddhist amulets engraved with the five Buddhas, surrounded by a floral motif, beautifully hand-crafted of red coral and turquoise cabachon inlay, topped with bright beads of ruby and emeralds, and decorated with a silk textile streamer.
