The fine item you are considering is an Antique Vintage Gustav G. Henning Violin #441 Dated 1927 With Repair Notation. I have lots of photos below, so be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this page to take a better look. This beautiful vintage violin is a bit of a mystery, as it sports the renown G. Henning maker‘s label, with a hand written date of 1927, and also has Henning’s hand written serial number of #441 written on the label. Additionally, on the very top of the label, Henning also wrote “Repaired by”. The violin does show a very old repair at the neck (see photos) which is still solid and well done, as you would expect if Henning did it, which he obviously did. My personal belief is that Henning did build this violin, and when it was later damaged, repaired it, making the notation on the label to show that it was repaired by him. It seems illogical to me to think that Henning would have repaired a violin he didn’t build and then place his complete maker’s label over the original label. Also, the label is obviously serialized with the number “441” which would have been a serial number consistent with the numbers he was putting on his violins during this period. Of course, at this point, everything is a bit of conjecture, as I don’t believe that any specific serial number record exists for every one of Henning’s violins, so please examine my photos below carefully and draw your own conclusions. The violin comes with a period case (one latch is busted) and an unmarked period bow, and is in very nice overall, solid condition. Please note, I\'m not a violin player or repair person, so while the instrument looks to have nice action and be in playable shape, this is the opinion of a non-player and non-expert. The entire instrument measures approximately 23 ½” long, and approximately 10 ¾” from the nut to the edge of the fingerboard. Please see my photos below to have a look at this nice item.
