Antique galvanized steel fire extinquisher, in very nice shape. WWII Civil Defense, Continental Can Company, INC.All original with original green paint. Metal tag reads : \"Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., Tested Number A461327, 4 Gallon Hand Fire Extinquisher, Continental Can Company, Inc.\" It measures 25.5\" tall, 11\" wide, and weighs 13lbs empty. There is some rust around the lower iron band, but it doesn\'t affect the bottom (see pics). Easy clean up, anyway. The Fire sign is not included, I just thought it looked cool with this!

Dear offrd97,Your item is a WW II Civil Defense fire extinguisher. Issued to US Civil Defense Air Raid Wardens and Auxiliary Firefighters for suppressing incendiary bomb fires. Made with a large fill opening for filling while in use. Two handles for carrying by two persons to avoid exhaustion during longer carries. Long hose kept pump operator out of reach of spatters of molten magnesium thrown off by incendiary so he could work upright. Nozzle person would crawl toward the incendiary using a metal trash can lid to shield from the spattering magnesium. Stream deflector on nozzle would make a fan shaped spray for wetting adjacent combustibles while accelerating incendiary burn out. Spray would avoid forcing water into molten magnesium which would spatter the burning metal. Once the incendiary burned out the fires it ignited could be extinguished allowing team to move on to next incendiary. Designed by US Civil Defense using UK experience during the Blitz.
