Outstanding and rare Contract Millard Light Cavalry Saber: Regulation M1860 US cavalry saber made and marked by “D.J. Millard / Clayville NY / U.S. CEW 1862”. In 1861 Millard was awarded a small contract for 10,000 light cavalry sabers, and all specimens I have viewed bear the date of 1862. This one is in fine condition. Leather grip covering is VG showing little to no wear. Blade is immaculate and still very bright. The brass guard and pommel are gently polished and the pommel bears clear inspector’s initials “ADK” stamped into the rim. The scabbard is smooth steel with a light brown patina with no dents. The drag is deeply inspected CEW. On a scale of one to ten this saber rates a 9. A good solid saber.
