First, a little history about this \"Old Abe\"! I inherited him from my in-laws who lived in Washington State. To the best of my knowledge my father in law got him shortly after WWII, his first wife did the first restoration, not sure when, but it helped preserve him. In August of 2014 I received him and began my research, as I wanted to restore him with as much accuracy as possible. After months of searching I found an issue of \"The Heritage Eagle\"; the newsletter of the International J.I. Case Heritage Foundation. In this issue it has the description of how to properly restore and paint \"Old Abe\". In this article by \"Helen Case Brigham\", she transcribed at length an in depth conversation with long time foundation charter member Harry E. Kline, acollector and restorer of Case eagles. His research was the product of what amounts to years of study, testing of paints and other work by Harry, working with others to get \"The Right Stuff\" for the painting scheme. The final result included detailed painting of several Case eagle\'s by an old-timer who actually used to paint the birds (in full detail) for the company when they were still being produced new for distribution to dealerships. I found the originalCase red, often calledCasePower Red, Case brown, Case Power White, Case Power Yellow, the Case/John Deere Green shared at the time in thelate 1920\'s to the late 1930\'s.

Theactualpainting: The picturesshow theprogression ofOld Abe as I received him, waiting at the sandblasters, then after sandblasting, in the trailer ready to come home to my restoration shop. First, there are 2 coats of Case Iron Gard Red Oxide primer, andthen 3 coats of Case Iron Gard Brown. Then \"Old Abe\" sat in the summer sun curing for seven days. It took 4 coats of white to cover the brown, each coat took 3 days each to cure, as these were painted on by hand with brushes, the blue only took 2 coats as it was Limco Supreme Plus, machinery and equipment acrylic enamel and it covered very well, also painted by hand with brushes, with 3 days between coats. The Case/John Deere Green #262 also covered very well with only 2 coats. The raised Case letters received four coats of white over the blue and green, followed by 3 coats of Case Power Red.

The painting of the legs, feet, claws are all to detail as described in the article. Also, every detail of the head, neck and beak are done as described.

Old Abe\'s stand weighs 50 lbs., the 2 inch stand pipe was replaced as the old pipe had some rust, the new pipe is 2 inches thick wall conduit and where it was cut and drilled I coated with zinc compound. His front half weighs 150 lbs. and his back half weighs 150 lbs. for a total of 350 lbs and is 58 1/2 inches. It will take about 4 days to crate him up. Free Shipping!!!No shipping to Alaska or Hawaii.Good luck offerding.
