Dug in Rockingham County, VA. Looks like it was bent and the hunter tried to straighten it out and broke it. He must have put in a piece of wood to hold it together for display purposes.

I imagine this piece wouldn’t have broken if the blade was all the way through. I think the blade goes from the tang all the way to the first dent in the scabbard.

Measures 43 1/2” from the end to the sword tang.
