This is an original Civil War pass issued March 8, 1864 by Headquarters Army of the Potomac, Office Provost Marshal General.It states that \"The Bearer\", Lt. Technall (?) 1st Pen Reserves, \"has permission to\" Washington DC and Return By Rail and Boat\"This pass will expire\" March 28, 1864By Command of Gen M R Patrick \"Provost Marshal General, Army of the Potomac\"The signature appears to be A S SchuttThe pass is printed on paper with a horizontal weave and thin blue horizontal lines. It has been well used (probably attributable to the fact that it was in effect for 20 days). There is evidence of several creases and there are tears beginning along some of them. There is a diagonal tear on the upper right corner which has been repaired with tape on the back. There is also a mounting square on the upper right corner when viewed from the back. I have had this piece in my collection for over 40 years; and, all of tears and repairs were present when I got it.The pass measures 4 3/16 by 5 inches. Take a look at all of the pictures. I have tried to show all of the faults. In my mind the worts and blemishes only add to the flavor of this interesting collectible. Just think of all it must have gone through during the period it was in effect!I ship by USPS Priority Mail and I pay half the cost.
