History: In 1994, to celebrate the company\'s 40th birthday (C for carbon and 40 for the company\'s 40th anniversary), the C40 was first presented to the public by Ernesto Colnago inCambiago, Italy. The revolutionary construction was made of profiled carbon fiber tubes fitted together with carbon fibre lugs and steered with a high tech steel fork. Ernesto outfitted the Team Mapei as the first squad to race this incredible bike. The Mapei team proved that the bike was capable of the roughest conditions in European road racing.Mapei\'s Franco Ballerini won the 1995 Paris-Roubaix on the C-40. Suddenly, everybody wanted this frame marking the demise of aluminium frames. 1996 made the frame a legend, when Johan Museeuw, Andrea Tafi and Gianluca Bortolami crossed the line at the Roubaix velodrome as first, second and third place at this grueling race. Team Mapei then repeated the triple in 1998 and 1999. Soon the bike was being ridden by several pro-tour teams. The bike was replaced by the C50 in 2004, but remains a beloved sought-after legend.
Here is an original C-40 in a rarely seen art decor paint scheme in rare flawless condition. The bike is period correct in its original condition when purchased from Italy with Mavic Cosmic carbon clincher wheels.
