Confederate \"Dog River\" Sword - Alabama:

FRESH TO THE MARKET - ACQUIRED FROM CHRIS MITCHELL OF ALABAMA, NOTED DEALER AND APPRAISER FOR ANTIQUES ROADSHOW! This great Confederate made saber reflects all the great traits of a Southern manufactured sword from reddish color of the Deep South brass and casting flaws to iron twisted wire wrap over the carved wooden core. This example exhibits well a staple weapon of the horsemen under Nathan Bedford Forrest or Joe Wheeler. Echoes of Glory: Arms and Equipment of the Confederacy on pg. 76 has a very similar example associated with the Army of Tennessee. Origins of manufacture could be the Mt. Vernon Arsenal (Alabama), Atlanta (Georgia), or even Nashville, but since it surfaced in Alabama it is a possibility that it has origins there. A great sword, UNTOUCHED condition with all the appeal and characteristics noted to a valiant army who\'s history is becoming \"Gone With The Wind\". Condition: Blade has contact marks along edge of blade closer to the tip than the hilt. There is a slight looseness or give in the hilt assembly and pommel is undisturbed. The handle has about 70% leather present and all iron wire wrap that is also somewhat loose due to wood and leather shrinkage. Overall, in fantastic \"attic black\" estate condition and unmolested by dealers who often re-wrap handles and disassemble these relics to do so.
