Offered for sale is this gorgeous Native American Style flute by David O\'Neal of Rising Moon Flutes. Six hole Key of A pentatonic scale. It is 19\" long with a 3/4\" bore. It is signed by David and the key is indicated on the bottom (see photo).
This beautiful flute was a custom made piece. It is in resin stabilized blue and gray buckeye burl with blackwood ends caps and inlaid rings of crushed mother of pearl. The body is a phenomenal piece of rare blue/black buckeye burl - rare in the sense that it shows little if any brown. It really looks more like stone or granite than wood. The blackwood end caps each have three inlaid rings of mother of pearl. The block has a buckeye burl base with a Petoskey stone (a fossilized coral) mounted in blackwood. The strap is further adorned with silver beads and two Petoskey stone beads that match the block. If you are familiar with David\'s flutes you know that he uses fossils, minerals and other natural elements in his inlays and blocks. This flute is a perfect example of his beautiful style. If you are familiar with Rising Moon Flutes you also know that David\'s flutes have gorgeous sound. Buckeye burl typically has many pores or voids and can be brittle and unstable to turn, thus it is frequently pressure infused with resin to stabilize it. The resin used to stabilize the burl results in a very smooth inner bore and this gives the flute very clear and highly controllable sound. This one has great volume as well and the notes are very stable.
I am only selling this flute because I have recently gotten into rim blown flutes and need to downsize the collection a bit. David\'s flutes in buckeye burl and with embellishments such as this typically go for over $600.00, so the starting offer is reasonable. Please note that the flute stand pictured in the photos is not included in this sale and is for display only.
