EMERSON & SILVER - HIGH-GRADE SILVER HILT, NON-REGULATION STAFF & FIELD SWORD: This is Silver hilt; high-grade Non-Regulation Staff & Field sword, and is an Emerson & Silver product. Though it is not maker marked or the mark is worn off, the grip design and etching style is unique to Emerson & Silver of New Jersey. There is no scabbard with this sword. It most likely was lost on the battle field where obviously this sword was carried. The brass hilt has traces of original gold wash, is tight, and has a nice mustard-brown patina with a German-Silver grip with all original wire. The guard and lower branch is bent indicating it was carried. The original leather blade washer keeps the 32 inch etched blade tight. The etching is very strong and beautiful with an etched Eagle, US, Liberty or Death banner, and standing Zouave armed with a musket. There is some minor oxidation stippling near the area of the tip, but there is also some original frosting in the etched area. This sword would have been carried by a Zouave Staff Officer and would be valued $3000 plus if the original scabbard was with it, but is available with a low reserve.
