RAREFerdinand Rebechini \"First Step on the Moon\" Apollo Astronaut Statue Commemorating theMoon Landing

This rare antiqued bronze tone sculpture features an astronaut descending the lunar landing module ladder to step on to the moon\'s surface. It is a stunning piece with wonderful detail.

The statue is made of metal but I cannot determine what the metal is. I can tell you that it is not magnetic and it weighs approx. 7 lbs. 12 oz. with the wooden base. It is on a wooden base. The metal statue attaches to the base with a hex-bolt.

The statue is in wonderful condition with no signs of wear or damage on the actual statue. The wooden base appears to have had a plaque on it at one time so there is a strip that is a bit darker (see last picture.) Also, there is a curved scratch on the base that runs from side to side and under the sculpture from the screw being loose on the bottom. There is some dust in the crevices of the statue (maybe moon dust?) which I will leave to the future owner to clean as I do not want to damage the piece with any cleaners.

Measurements:

8 7/8\" x 8 1/8\" x 6 1/2\" - measured with wooden base and allowing for the overhang of the ladder over the base.

5 5/8\" x 3 3/4\" - the metal base that sits on the wood base

7 3/7\" x 4 1/2\" x 3/4\" - wood base

When researching this statue, I found some information in a discussion with members on a space collectibles website. I cannot independently confirm the following information but wanted to share it in case you find it helpful. Quoting from the thread about this Rebechini statue by member rory33:

Design Source of the Casting: The casting is modeled after a painting by Norman Rockwell depicting \"man\'s first step on the moon\" (titled: \"Man on the Moon\"). That painting and the statue are the same. The painting was used in a January 10th, 1967 fold out of Life Magazine.\"
