Ferret Mk1 Armored Scout Car Project:
$8500.00

This Ferret (FV 701) Mk 1 seems to have been built from several vehicles. It bears no identifying plates or numbers. It has most of the well-known Canadian modifications. It has triangular front corner hatches, normally found on Mk 2/3 and later vehicles. Those hatches did not close correctly and had to be ground down, indicating they werefrom a differenthull. It also has unusual tubular front and rear corner lights, seen in a few old photos.

I have chosen to build and decorate this Ferret to commemorate the Canadian Peacekeeping Effort (UNEF 1) during the 1956 Suez Crisis. Photos posted here are from that operation. It has the unique field-modification strap loops used to secure extra \'jerry cans\' on the rear of the vehicle in Suez and I have built rear-mount adapters to get them off the rear deck and improve rear vision. I removed a great deal of disused fasteners and mountings. I redesigned the electric system and installed 1950s USA armor cabin lights. A US militaryturn-signal system is built, ready for installation. Exterior lighting remains to be traced and proven. Includes an excellent pair of smoke dischargers, presently dismantled to avoid customs issues. The interior is done (white with grey floor), including upholstery.

Scores of tasks are finished and all parts needed to complete the vehicle are in stock, either new or refurbished. Vehicle was sandblasted to bare metal. Exterior white paint (first coat) is 60% done. I just installed a rebuilt carburetor and pressure-cleaned engine bay and suspension elements. The engine is free and has good compression. Coolant system is tight and full. The fuel tank has not had fuel in it since being removed and cleaned. Assuming usual problems with the installed fuel pump, a 24V unit is provided. Five original Dunlop run-flat tyres are in good serviceable condition (spare leaks). Right center bin new. All other bins in excellent condition with hatches free and aligned. Right-side wings not completely bolted in...shipping only. 2 rear wings reinforced for standing crew traffic. All interior and exterior stores bins blasted, primed, and painted, then installed.

Alarge list of tasks accomplished is available. All pertinent UK manuals are included. It rolls and steers. Three small welding jobs are needed. Brakes are the only problem area, though I had all 5 cylinders SS/sleeved and are in stock. Shoes and drums are new. All controls are connected and functional (except for the fuel-enrichment cable). This vehicle has never been driven on streets or highways of USA.

It is essential to view the vehicle and parts stock to grasp the value of this offering.

This weekend I will try to start and operate the vehicle (I am an experienced Ferret/Saracen driver). Bear in mind that if successful, and I publish a video of it, the price will have to go up. Snooze...lose!
