Description

The Series of 1914 $5 Federal Reserve Notes have a portrait of Abraham Lincoln at center. The treasury seal is at right while the Federal Reserve Seal is to the left. The number 1-12, and the large letter A to L, on the seal at left indicate the Federal Reserve Bank that issued the note. The reverse, printed in green ink, has the vignette of Columbus sighting land to the left and the Landing of the Pilgrims to the right. While relatively simple in design there are many districts, signature variations and plate styles that make it a very collectible series.

This example from the San Francisco series is a type b with a small district and letter at the lower right. The note displays bright paper with exceptionally dark inks throughout and a deep, rich royal blue seal. PMG assigns a grade of About Uncirculated 53 with a comment for stains which is seen at the lower right and is minor on the otherwise original paper surfaces. Friedberg# 891b is a considerably better number with PMG grading only thirty one examples with just seven being finer.
