This 1787 copper cent was struck only four years after America won its independence from Britain. The design of this coin is based largely a design created by Benjamin Franklin for the 1776 Continental Dollar Currency. It features the Latin phrase \"Fugio\" signifying \"Time Flies\" - next to the image of a sundial. Beneath the sundial is Franklin\'s own admonition to \"Mind Your Business\". Typical for a Franklin aphorism, the message can be taken two ways. As a successful businessman- but also a social activist- Franklin may be referring to the business of both commerce and society.

The other side of this historical Early American coin contains the motto \"We are One\" surrounded by thirteen unbroken chain links. The message of colonial unity and strength could not be clearer.
