G.A.R.-Grand Army of the Republic-GAR 1 New Jersey Cavalry 1899 Badge:
$142.49

Offered is a badge worn by veterans of the 1st New Jersey Cavalry at their 1899 reunion held in Trenton, New Jersey. The badge has a silver metal hanger. There are two ribbons hanging from the hanger. The front ribbon is an American Flag ribbon. Attached to the Flag ribbon is a celluloid with the likeness of Colonel John W. Kester (I think) on it. A yellow ribbon is attached to the hanger behind the Flag ribbon and celluloid drop.Written on the yellow ribbon in silver color ink is “20th Annual Reunion VET. ASSO’N – 1st Reg’t N.J. Vol. Cavalry – Trenton,N.J. – Sept. 7, 1899”. There is a pair of crossed sabers above the writing. A metal fringe is attached to the yellow ribbon. There is no maker mark on the ribbon. The most notable issue with the badge is the water damage to the celluloid drop leaving brown stains. The American Flag ribbon has some fading. There are a couple of fringe pieces that are missing, and there is no hanger pin on the back. As always, please see photos and make up your own mind on the condition.

Thursday, March 1, 2018 will be my last opportunity to ship until Monday, March 5, 2018 due to travel.

The badge will be shipped USPS First Class tracked postage.

A sharp eyed er informed me the image is actually Maj. James Hart, who was killed on March 31,1865, at the beginning of the Appomattox Campaign.
