HAZEL TWIGG No. 98 Clara NUTCRACKER Ballet DREAMS Christmas Vtg SCHOENHUT Doll:
$746.00

We were in the midst of decorating our Christmas tree when there was a knock at the door. We all raced to see who could get there first. Not that it mattered; only Hazel and I could reach the knob, us being the only humans. The rest of the dolls certainly couldn\'t. Even Elizabeth, who at 21\" was the tallest. No matter. We raced all the same.

Standing on the porch was a little shivering Schoenhut dressed all in black.

\"Come in! Come in!\" we all cried. We ushered our newest arrival towards the fireplace - not too close, seeing as how she was made of wood.

\"What\'s your name?\" I asked, once we had settled her comfortably in a chair with a blanket and hot cocoa.

\"Let me guess: Ruth!\" Dot said, giggling.

I couldn\'t help laughing myself. It\'s no secret: I always wear black.

\"My name is Clara,\" our new little girl said softly. \"And I know exactly what I want to be...\"

Meet Clara

She of the Nutcracker Dreams

Clara is a Schoenhut doll measuring about 16 1/2\" in height and marked with a decal on her back. When she arrived she had some wear to her face paint and her wig was bald in the back and half gone on one side. Her left thumb had also been broken and reglued. Clara is Hazel Twigg O.L.D. (Once-Loved Doll) No. 98. We\'re almost to 100!

My philosophy is to do as little as possible to these girls. Mend them, clean them, and dress them up so that they can last and be loved for another lifetime without losing the signs that they were Once-Loved before. Do not look for airbrushed perfection here!

I gently touched up Clara\'s features and found an old hand-wefted human hair wig that very closely matched Clara\'s hair. The \"new\" wig was spindly as well, but she still looks better. I looked at her thumb, gave it a kiss, and got to work on her clothes.

Even I can tell when I\'ve gone overboard! But I had a VISION for this girl, and no one was going to stop me! Not even my wee sister Julie, who not only shook her tiny fists, she stomped her little pointy shoes in protest when I told her all the things I wanted to do for Clara. I will say, however, when I told her I might have to cut out the ballerinas, she said, \"No! We need those!\" So I forged ahead.

Clara comes with everything you see - save the backdrop sheet. This includes...

MORE PICTURES coming of Clara in her other outfits tomorrow. Do you think I\'d spend all that time on her clothing and then NOT show her in them? NEVAH.

PARTY DRESS: vintage fabric in pale turquoise and cream in a drop waist, sailor style. The chest part snaps in front, so she goes into it feet first. Trimmed with antique lace. Matching, tea-dyed ribbon for her hair.

NIGHT GOWN & MOP CAP: Made with my famous Mackay Bennett dumpster dive fabric. I love that stuff...I also used the ruffles from a vintage organdy toddler\'s slip. Silk ribbons at the elbows. Matching mop cap with a huge pink ribbon from a very old slip.

PLAY DRESS: I crave color. Here\'s one of the things I went overboard in doing, but the other outfits were just so pale! Cherry red and beige homespun fabric.

COAT, HAT & SCARF: I had this beautiful strip of old, possibly mohair fabric. It was about 5\" by 45\". Not quite enough to make a coat, but Clara really, really wanted it. So I supplemented it with scraps from an old cream wool coat.Double breasted, snaps in front.Contrasting hat and scarf. Coat and hat fully lined.

SHOES & SOCKS: Simple hand made cream leather shoes with suede soles. The socks are beautiful and old, possibly from a Kestner.

EXTRAS:

DANCERS: I had these inexpensive little dancing ballerina ornaments that I bought a long time ago. I think I just liked the movement of them. When going through my Christmas stuff, I saw them again and thought they would be perfect for this. I repainted them and gave them new \"outfits.\" They are: TOY SOLDIER, PEPPERMINT, SUGAR PLUM FAIRY, WALTZING FLOWER, AND SNOW FLAKE. These are all based on characters from the ballet.

NUTCRACKERS: A big one and a little one. These are not the fancy kind.

PLEASE NOTE: THE BIG NUTCRACKER WEIGHS 2 1/2 POUNDS. IF YOU DON\'T WANT HIM, LET ME KNOW. SHIPPING WILL BE MUCH CHEAPER.

ROCKING CHAIR & AFGHAN: Sweet, old rocking chair that fits Clara nicely. It and the antique doll-sized granny square afghan are my gifts to her.

STOCKING & STUFFERS: Stocking made from old ticking fabric with a loop to hang on the back of Clara\'s rocking chair.

Antique German dolly measuring about 3\" and marked 36 and then something like \"4/0 7/7\" below that. She was bald, I made a quick wig for her with some blonde mohair and then made the little dress and hat with silk ribbon accents.

I also added some mercury glass beads to the bottle brush tree. Also included are some Strombecker furniture pieces: a chair, a side table, and a fireplace. Beneath that is an old \"Tobacco\" silk rug and there\'s a little wooden Santa Claus. Lastly, there\'s an antique embossed metal cup, an orange, and some candy canes made from old pipe cleaners. Clara has a sweet tooth (just so you know).

For this heavy package with all its treasures, in addition to the option of having it shipped without the large nutcracker, I am also offering Parcel Post or Priority. CLARA\'S ADOPTION DATE IS DECEMBER 17. If you want her by Christmas, you need to pick Priority.

Clara is my only Christmas doll this year. I\'ve run out of time! So let me say it now: Merry Christmas, You\'re My Favorite! I\'ll write about Clara and I\'ll note it below...
