This U.S 1860 dragoon saber was used by James W.Faulkner when he served as a Private in Company F, 1st. Florida Cavalry fromNovember 25, 1861 to May, 1862
as a blacksmith & as the Captain in the 1stBattalion Florida Special Cavalry from April 1864 to May, 1865.
It is in good condition, 40” overall length with a 35”blade (that appears to have been nickel plated (a long time ago when he was inUCV parades), you can still see S on the blade. It has a brass guard &pommel cap, wood grip that has a small age crack in the left side.
He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans camp# 1737 in Perry, Florida for many years & used this saber when he commandedthe honor guard in parades.
It comes from a small Florida collection of Civil Warartifacts & comes with a family letter from that collection.
There are very few Florida Civil War artifacts & arevery seldom seen at Civil War or militeria shows anymore & are nowconsidered to be quite rare!
See the ided 4th Florida Infantry 1850 footofficer’s sword from this same collection, listedseparately.
