Important 1717 Kloz Klotz Violin w/1897 Paperwork 2 Bows Case & Provenance
Measures 23 1/2\" overall not including endpin -- Body is 14 1/8\"
Weight = 15.2 oz.
Very interesting story behind this violin -- Bought in 1897 from J. C. Hendershot (whom himself is well known in the violin world for bringing famous maker violins to USA and eventually making violins) for the sum of $100 which I have the paperwork for a loan to a Frank Mutzenbauer. Story gets better Frank was a musician originally from Austria. Family says he died in 1922 at Wisconsin state fair walking out to perform (he was to play his violin in the middle of the track area) at a harness race and was trampled to death by a horse which wasn\'t suppose to be on the track. We not only have the loan but also the receipt of payments many with J.C. Hendershot signature with Paid also on them. As far as condition goes the violin has a crack on the front face and the back face -- also a crack off of one of the holes were the tuning peg fits into. Paper label is very hard to read the last 2 digits of the date but the loan paperwork which was written over 110 years ago states 1717. Also veneer is loose on the side were it meets the neck. Both bows also have issues -- one bow has part of the tip broken off and missing -- the other bow has a chip out of the frog.
